Shake your groove thing because Ms. Gloria Gaynor and the Village People have been added the State Theatre line-up for June 25, 2011! It’s a night of disco fever and everyone is invited! They will be playing all your favorite hits including “YMCA,” “In the Navy,” and “Macho Man,” and of course the greatest disco anthem of all, Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.” This year marks the 30th anniversary of “I Will Survive” which itself has survived in various forms and has been re-recorded over 200 times by various artists such as Gladys Knight, Chantay Moore, Diana Ross, and Cake.

As the fall season begins to creep its way into the city of New Brunswick, so does the witty humor and talents of comedian Craig Ferguson as he performs his stand-up act at the State Theatre on Thursday, October 21 at 8pm.

New Brunswick, NJ (October 5, 2010)—The State Theatre is collecting “gently used” winter coats to help benefit New Jersey residents in need. The coats are being collected for the annual coat drive hosted by the nonprofit organization, Jersey Cares. Over the past 14 years, Jersey Cares has collected, sorted and distributed thousands of winter coats to at-risk men, women, children, and infants in need through this program. 

In less than one month, the State Theatre re-opens its doors to audiences for the first time since late July. After a summer of renovations for our new heating/air conditioning system, we will be back and better than ever! And for those of you who have been away, we have added a whole bunch of shows to our 2010-11 line-up, including comedians Ron White (3/3/11) and Gabriel Iglesias (1/20/11); contemporary Christian group, MercyMe (10/14/10); and former Styx front man Dennis DeYoung with a concert featuring the music of Styx (3/5/10).

I was lucky to grow up a drummer in the late 60s and early 70s with such great music. Even luckier to have great drum teachers like Pete Bross (Gary U.S. Bonds, Hermans Hermits), Mickey Sheen, John Macaluso (Yngwie Malmsteen, James Labrie of Dream Theater, TNT, Riot)… but there was always one drummer that stood out to me…Ringo Starr of The Beatles.

Wonder Woman is coming to the State Theatre! Yes, you are reading that correctly. Lynda Carter, best-known as her role as Wonder Woman, will be headlining the State Theatre’s 2010 Benefit Gala on Saturday, May 22.

Every year at the State Theatre we present a special event weekend called the New Jersey Blues & Jazz Festival at the Backstage Jazz Club. It’s 3 nights of blues and jazz by some of the most sought after musicians of in these genres and this year is no exception.
